The main reason I’ve put this page together is to celebrate the wonderful partnership and friendship I had with a remarkably talented young lady named Patti, and also as a tribute to her memory. I met Patti in the autumn of 1976 and we wrote our first song together a few days later. Musically, we clicked instantly! Unfortunately, I don’t have any recordings of Patti’s piano music, but the first time I heard her play, I knew she was a “star!” In the words of her husband Bill, “Patti’s got more talent in her little finger than most people have in their whole bodies.” I couldn’t have said it better. Not only was she an accomplished musician & songwriter, but Patti was also a top-notch artist. She painted and sculpted incredibly beautiful works with her hands! Equally versatile on piano and guitar, Patti’s main influences were classical and Emerson, Lake and Palmer. The main influences I brought to the partnership came from the late ‘60’s: Beatles & other British bands, Dylan, Peter, Paul & Mary and the Mamas & Papas, among others. The blend, however improbable, was amazing! Sadly, much of our material was never recorded, but I’m quite grateful for the ones in my possession that have been preserved down through time. I’m happy to be able to share these songs & memories through my website, as the music of Patti Jo Gathof (1959-1998) & Red Bird lives on! To download our music visit itunes, Rhapsody or Napster.
